Providing leadership in the conduct of research on the state,
regional and national levels is a hallmark of the University
of Kansas. A pre-eminent goal of the Office of the Vice Provost
for Research to maintain and expand this leadership role by enhancing
the research enterprise. Building and maintaining the human and
capital resources necessary to foster and conduct high quality
research is an increasingly expensive and difficult task. To
accomplish this task and to catalyze future research endeavors,
OVPR has implemented a policy on the return of indirect costs
(Facilities and Administration).
Ten percent (10%) of the indirect costs (IDC) generated by the
project will be returned to the principal investigator's college,
school or research center/unit based on his/her appointment.
If the investigator has appointments in more than one school,
college, or research unit, then allocations will be made proportionately.
For multiple investigator projects, the ten percent (10%) IDC
return will be allocated among the principal investigator and
co-investigators based on the credit allocation specified by
the researchers.
If the project is assigned to a research center or other non-academic
unit, then an additional four percent (4%) of the IDC will be
returned to the assigned unit. If the assigned research unit
is a KU Center for Research designated center (listed below),
then it will receive six percent (6%) of the IDC. If no research
center/unit is assigned, then the PI will receive four percent
(4%) of the IDC.
