The Office of the Chancellor makes the university airplane available to researchers who can benefit from face-to-face meetings with funding officials in Washington, D.C. There is no charge to the researcher for these trips. The only requirement is that the researcher have a scheduled meeting with program officers to discuss the possibility of funding for a future sponsored project.

Space on each flight is limited and is open only to faculty or faculty-equivalent researchers actively seeking funding. If you are interested in reserving a seat on one of these flights, please contact Linda Crawford in the Office of Research and Graduate Studies at lcrawfor@ku.edu as soon as possible. If you are assigned a seat for one of these trips, it will be necessary for you to provide us with your email address, agency being visited in Washington, and your home telephone number so we are able to call you early on the morning of a scheduled trip in case a flight is cancelled due to bad weather or mechanical problems. Be assured that we will not give out your home number to anyone; we must have that information logged into our records before space on the plane can be reserved for you. We will send all passengers a detailed map with directions to the KU hangar at the Lawrence airport.
If you would like to receive electronic notification of future trips, please e-mail lcrawfor@ku.edu and ask that your name be placed on the e-mail distribution list.
The KU Center for Research (KUCR) has another program to enable KU researchers to meet with funding officers. KUCR will pay for one trip a year per researcher to visit a sponsor. A maximum of $750 per trip is available. A Faculty/Staff Research Development Travel Fund form must be completed, returned to KUCR, and approved by the director of research administration before arrangements are finalized for such a trip. Please contact Joanne Altieri at jaltieri@ku.edu or 785-864-7688 for further information on this program.
