Steven F. Warren is vice provost for research and graduate studies at the University of Kansas and professor of applied behavioral science.  He was named to that position in January 2008, after serving for five months as interim vice provost and six years as director of KU’s Schiefelbusch Institute for Life Span Studies.

As vice provost, Warren leads an organization on the Lawrence campus that includes nine University Research Centers and Institutes, two state surveys, three affiliated centers, and two core service laboratories.  He is president of the KU Center for Research, Inc., the nonprofit research foundation that administers grants, technology transfer, and business and industry outreach.  Warren also oversees the administration of graduate education at KU, including application processing and all planning and policy in support of graduate studies.

Prior to coming to KU in 2000, Warren was at Vanderbilt University for 18 years.  He was a professor of special education and psychology and deputy director of Vanderbilt’s John F. Kennedy Center for Human Development.  His academic background includes three degrees from KU, including a Ph.D. degree in child and developmental psychology.
