George S. Wilson is an associate vice provost for research and graduate studies and the Higuchi Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He was named to that position in October 2003. He also serves as a vice president of the KU Center for Research.
Wilson participates in the oversight of Lawrence campus research centers and institutes and has primary responsibility for research space assignments and investments in research.
Prior to coming to KU in 1987, Wilson spent 20 years in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Arizona, rising to the rank of full professor. His academic background includes an A.B. degree from Princeton University and a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
One of the highlights of Wilson's career is the development of an internal sensor that continuously monitors glucose in diabetic patients. This real-time information is processed to provide the patient a means of avoiding low blood sugar.
