Dr. George S. Wilson, professor of chemistry, was named associate vice provost for research and vice president of the KU Center for Research in October 2003. He has been at KU since 1987 and is a Higuchi distinguished professor of chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry. One of the highlights of Wilson's career is the development of an internal sensor that continuously monitors glucose in diabetic patients. This real-time information is processed to provide the patient a means of avoiding low blood sugar.

Dr. Wilson recently served a two-year term as president of the Division of Physical and Biophysical Chemistry of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. He currently sits on KU's Life Sciences Research Council.

Wilson's duties in the Office of the Vice Provost include oversight of Lawrence campus research centers and institutes, research space assignments, and investments in research.
