Advice to Researchers About ‘Embargoed’ Journal Articles
Research published in peer-reviewed journals is university news and we want to know about it ASAP.
Many journals embargo your research until the date it is actually published. Please note: this embargo applies only to the news media, not to the university or other researchers.
The Office of University Relations, the KU Center for Research, and the public information person in your unit want to know about your forthcoming publication as early as possible. This will enable them to craft a news release that will attract
media coverage and showcase the impact of your research. It will also prevent other news media, other journals, or partner institutions from “scooping” KU on the research work of our own faculty.
If you have a publication coming up, please contact the Office of University Relations or the KU Center for Research. You and your hard work deserve appropriate recognition and this is the best way to accomplish that.
