New Restricted Research Policy Approved
Chancellor Hemenway recently approved the new restricted research policy that was passed by Faculty Council in April.
The Office of Research Integrity website will outline procedures under the new policy soon. In the meantime, please note the following:
- Proposed projects meeting any of the following criteria must be submitted to the restricted research committee for review prior to the acceptance of any contract or grant:
- Any required delay of publication longer than 150 days;
- Any indefinite or permanent delay of publication;
- Any limits on access to the research process by foreign students, scholars, faculty, or staff;
- Any restrictions on access to campus facilities in ways that are judged to disrupt the overall research and teaching activities of the university; or
- Any contract or grant that has primarily harmful consequences for human beings.
A new faculty restricted research committee has been formed to review requests for exceptions to the new policy guidelines. Susan Kemper, Roy A. Roberts Distinguished Professor of Psychology, will chair this committee.
Questions regarding the new policy may be addressed to William Sharp, director, research integrity, at wsharp@ku.edu or 864-7430.
