NSF Program Helps Investigators Communicate Research to Public Audiences
The National Science Foundation (NSF) Informal Science Education program (ISE) in the Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings (DRL) division provides support to award recipients to help communicate their research to broader audiences.
NSF 03-509, “Communicating Research to Public Audiences,” supports projects that provide stimulating contexts and experiences for individuals of all ages, interests, and backgrounds to increase their appreciation for, and understanding of, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in out-of-school settings.
Requests for up to $75,000 are considered to support projects that communicate to public audiences the process and results of current research that is being supported by any NSF directorate through informal science education activities, such as media presentations, exhibits, or youth-based activities. Other program guidelines include:
- The Principal Investigator (PI) must have an active NSF-supported research grant.
- The Program Officer for the research award must provide a letter of support.
- Proposals may be submitted at anytime, but at least six months prior to the anticipated start date.
