KU Co-Sponsors National Conference for Chicano and Native American Students in Science
The Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) will host their 2007 national conference October 11-14 at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown in Kansas City, MO.
"Stretching the Imagination to Support Leadership and Sustainability," merges opportunities for Chicano/Latino and Native American students to share research, receive guidance, and develop professionally with three days of innovative conference activities.
The University of Kansas will be a lead sponsor of the event, hosting the reception where the Chancellor will welcome the expected 3,000 attendees. In addition, KU will have two recruitment booths for the Lawrence and Medical Center campuses.
"This is a real opportunity for KU to shine, providing faculty the opportunity to recruit undergraduates into summer research programs, potential graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers" says KU local organizing chairperson Professor Jim Orr. "We are making every effort to ensure the conference attendees from other universities get an opportunity to see KU as a leading research university".
The Office for Diversity in Science Training is serving as the lead unit for KU's efforts.
