KU scientist elected fellow of national geology organization
Marios Sophocleous, senior scientist for the Kanas Geological Survey, was elected a fellow of the Geological Society of America, a worldwide association that promotes the geosciences and provides a forum for diverse ideas.

Politics and bond market study by KU doctoral student wins award
U.S. Army Col. Robert Kennedy Nye, a doctoral student in public administration, won a national award for his study of the effects of political information on the municipal bond market.

Two grad students win case study prize at Kansas Student Affairs conference
B. Tyler Blair and Stefani Gerson, graduate students in higher education administration, won in October in Manhattan. The competition focused on crisis management for universities and required students to create a fictitious university and establish a task force to evaluate the crisis management procedures for that campus.

KU researcher: iPhone holds promise as portable classroom
An associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science at KU recognized that the popular gizmo could be used as a distance learning tool. James R. Miller said the pocket-sized computer can perform like an on-the-go classroom.

Life Span Institute bestows two graduate research assistant awards
Two doctoral students in clinical child psychology at the University of Kansas received Friends of the Life Span Institute Graduate Research Assistant Awards of $1,500 each. Winners are Sara Rebecca Gould and Brandon S. Aylward.
