RGS Units / Structure

RGS People
RGS staff have a variety of duties and are located primarily at Youngberg Hall, Strong Hall, the Multidisciplinary Research Building and the Structural Biology Center. To locate a staff person, by name or by unit, use the "People/Contacts" tab on the RGS home page.

Research Administration
Research Administration is the largest organizational group within RGS and performs the non-financial functions of KUCR. Constituent departments are:

Proposal Services: Provides proposal review and proposal preparation services to principal investigators as they prepare and submit competitive proposals for external funding.

Contract Negotiations: Reviews and negotiates the terms and conditions of sponsored research agreements.

Post-Award Services: Responsible for monitoring award funds during the period between the awarding of a grant and the award close-out.

Facilities Management: Responsible for managing all research-related property, equipment and other assets.

Financial Services
Supports the vice provost and all research units in all financial matters, including budget preparation, expenditure tracking, and the development and management of state and KUCR corporate budgets. Units within financial services include:

Graduate Studies
Advocates for graduate education, oversees graduate programs and the Office of Professional Military Graduate Education, manages the Graduate Application Processing Center, works with the Executive Council of Graduate Faculty, and supervises the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony.

Professional Military Graduate Education
A cooperative effort between KU, the Combined Arms Center and Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, and all branches of the U.S. military to provide opportunities for advanced study, collaborative research and academic interaction.

Research Integrity
Responsible for making recommendations regarding the development of policies and procedures related to research compliance and the responsible conduct of research, including human subjects research.

KU Center for Technology Commercialization
A bi-campus organization that seeks to maximize the impact of university intellectual property for the benefit of the university and society.

Business and Industry Outreach
Works to extend KU’s economic development mission by building relationships with companies interested in collaborative research.

Research Computing Technology
Responsible for developing a comprehensive research computing environment and acquiring the resources necessary to pursue competitive research and creative activity.

Communications
Responsible for the RGS website, news media relations, the monthly Research and Graduate Studies @ KU newsletter, publications, special events, and other media.

Planning Information and Analysis
Responsible for accessing, analyzing and reporting research-related information, including the annual report on Sponsored Research at the University of Kansas.
